Description

Create and organize an infographic using data that we have collected on any topic of our choice.

Process

The process I went through in creating this graphic as interesting for me. I love data and so I have a lot of data sets in a wide variety of areas. The hard part was deciding what data to use and pair it down to just a few items.

  1. I did some research on a couple of topics and found that the Horse Data was the easiest to work with and slim down.
  2. I then sketched out a couple of possible layouts that I thought would look good.
  3. I then started to lay out the various blocks based upon my sketches and to see how they looked.
  4. I then found icons to copy and recreate for my infographic That was a fun exercise using the pen tool in illustrator.
  5. The last part was trying to find colors that worked.  I ended up using a brown background with a monochromatic green for each of the info boxes.

Critique Process

The first critique was from the teach in the Facebook post. He suggested that a couple of items looked out of place and so I changed them completely. I changed out a man next to the horse sizes and put a human hand and explained how horses are measured along with the sizes of the various types of horses.

Class mate critique: Seth Bennett and Sarah Pence Sharp both gave a few good suggestions which I tried to incorporate. Both made suggestions about color and using more space which I did do.

My Brother Gareth gave me some of the best critique and I made quite a few changes that he suggested. I increased some of the fonts and change the order of text vs numbers.

MESSAGE

The message of this infographic was to do some basic education about the various types of horses you can find in the U.S.A.

AUDIENCE

This is geared to anyone interested in horses and how they are used in the U.S.A.

TOP THING LEARNED

Most people that I asked for feedback could not tell me what needed to be change because they were fascinated by the colors and layout even though it was a bad layout design. You need to find people that are critical to these to give you good feedback.

COLOR SCHEME & COLOR NAMES

The color scheme is a monochromatic green for the data and data boxes with a brown background behind the boxes of data with a slight line design on that.
