Our project this week was to create a montage with a spiritual message to it. We had to use three images and blend them all together.
Process
Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles used.
I was thinking about what I wanted to do and I came across the scripture and thought of the images. The image of Christ and Moroni were a definite and the one of the scriptures was one I had to look for.
Tools that I used was Adobe Photoshop. I use layer masking, adjusting the levels of light on the main image and the brightness in a couple of areas. I used the lasso tool with a 200 pixel feather to cut out the images of Christ and Moroni to put on the main image.
I then added the scripture and started to look for fonts that displayed the text well and easy to read.
I made sure to follow good design process by aligning the text to the right and leave enough white space between the images and text.
Critique Report
The critique process is one that I find hard to do at times. Most people I ask do not see the design principles and give suggestions that violate them.
The first critique was from the teacher on Tuesday morning. In that critique he made a few suggestions which I incorporated.
I received one critique on the Facebook page which I tried to incorporate. That was to lighten the text and soften the image.
I held a critique meeting with my aunt Wednesday afternoon. She is a graphics designer. One of the issues I found with her was that she does more graphic layouts that break the good design principle and most of the time it is because of what she is doing, scrap-booking. We went through about 10 variations of things to see how they looked. It was all done via a screen share program. Her biggest issues where the blending of the images and sharp contrast between them. That was a lot of work to do. We even looked at desaturating the images as an option.
Message
The message of this graphic to remind that if we study the scriptures, pray and ask questions, the Lord will become closer to us and we will receive answers.
Audience
Anyone who is touched by inspirational messages.
TOP THING LEARNED
There are many ways to get a message across and it all depends on who and what the message is. Most people do not see the little design inconstancies but designers see them all the time.
Color Scheme & Names
White was the main color with a gray shading over all the images.
