By using photography skills and Photoshop editing, create a full bleed poster using good design technique and use of fonts, colors, and images.
The process I went through was to look at all the things around where I live. Since I have been doing so much with our horses, I decided to do something along those lines. I did a quick Google search for quotes about horses and decided on one. That help determine the items in the picture.
The process I used was to take the following images first.
- I used a tarp as a green screen type backdrop to remove the background easily to photograph the saddle.
- I then photographed the side of our feed shed. The feed shed is over 30 years old. Because of the age it makes a great old style look backdrop for images.
- I then removed the background from the saddle photograph
- I then brought in the side of the feed shed and placed the saddle on it
- I then added the brown bar at the bottom and covered the stirrups on the saddle with it
- I put the saying over the brown bar in basic Arial then started a search for a font to use
- I then created a gradient to blend the right side into the background
- There was some light adjustment and color enhancements to make them stand out better
The critique process was this:
Initial: My wife Stacy Instructor Critique: It was suggested that I open the image more and not use a all caps font and to add one more color. One-on-one: Brian Vikander. Brian is a retired National Geographic photographer.
Class mates critique: I receive critiques from these students Christopher Zitting Ryan Montgomery Angie Worley Coates
That no matter how much time you spend with horses, your time is not wasted. Horses can teach you a lot.
The audience is for anyone that complains to others that they are spending too much time with horses.
The biggest thing I learned is that I tend to narrow my scope too much when looking at images. I do not seem to look at the larger picture.
